iWork 08 with inverted colors on Snow Leopard

Posted by Simeon on Sep 12, 2009 in Blog | 26 comments

Ok, so I have not found an answer for this and I am hoping one of the wonderful people out there has.

I just installed iWork 08 on my new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. In Pages and in Numbers (and I assume KeyNote) all the colors for anything inside the editor are inverted.

This is not the fun accessibility trick because its just the contents inside the program. The menu bars and everything else as well as other applications behave correctly.

I have found many references to this problem with no solution here here.

Anybody seen this or have any tips?

Thanks,
sim

  1. So maybe I am a moron, but I found the answer. Run Software Update.

All 3 applications in iWork 08 have updates available for Snow Leopard. It completely fixes the problem.

  2. I have the same issue you are experiencing yet the software update did not solve my issue. I’m going crazy trying to figure out a solution.

  3. Ditto that. Same problem. Snow Leopard with iWork ’08, including software update. Old Keynote files look fine if you just look at the slide thumbnails, but the slides themselves look like they got left out in the sun for a month. Viewing the slideshow improves things slightly, but they’re still all F’ed up. Huge bummer. Hope there’s a fix.

  4. The software update solved my problem. Thanks for the tip!

  5. I was having the same problem which software update didn’t fix either. I found that if you create a folder in Applications and name it ‘iWork ’08′, put Numbers, Pages and Keynote in there and run Software Update again, it will find updates and fix the problem.

    Hope this works for you!

  6. I had the same problem. At first, the update didn’t fix it because because prior to installing Snow Leopard I had reinstalled Leopard 10.5.x and it automatically created an iWork 08′ folder (trial version) and renamed my existing folder to iWork 08′ (from the old Mac). Therefore the software update updated the trial version of iWork 08′ and didn’t solve the problem.

So just to let you know that Shane’s solution works fine.

I am having the same problem…. DONT have a solution right now, yet I am on the phone with Apple right now so I might actually get a solution. for the record reinstall didn’t work.

  8. Nate Maxwell says:

SOLUTION- UNISTALL, REINSTALL, RUN LIVE UPDATES.

I Believe the updates were not being seen for some reason before but when I un-installed the iworks08 and put it back on, it found the updates needed and fixed the problem.

this is for the iWorks08 not working on SnowLeopard 10.6 os x.

    Sure hope this helps!

i had the same problem, and creating an ‘iWork ’08′ folder for the apps and running Update worked fine for me

  10. iWork08 folder worked for me. Thanks for this.

  11. It worked for me, too.

The snag was that I put the iWork apps in the apps folder rather than in a folder labeled iWork ’08. When I did that, the software update found them listed them for updates. I assume that after it’s done updating, things will run fine.

    many thanks!

  12. Cross your fingers, say a Hail Mary

  13. Run the update from Software Update and the problem gets fixed. Apple should have specified this issue. Those morons at Apple!

  14. Running Software worked for me perfectly. Now there are not inverted colors anymore. A strange bug. I was wondering why this had been told when upgrading Leopard to Snow Leopard.

However, I am a grateful person to get it fixed by following the procedure on this site.

  15. Updating worked perfectly for me. Thanks for posting this; I was going crazy!

  16. I had the same problem – updating solved it.
    Thanks for tips everyone!

  17. update worked for me after reinstall. many thanks :)

  18. The fix worked for me! I put the iWork folder directly under applications (I had moved it for organizational puroposes) and then I did an update…everything ok now! Thanks guys!

  19. the updates worked for me. i was totally frazzeled since i had some science tests on Pages that I was intending to use the same day the School District Tech guy imaged my computer. Apparently some Snow Leopard updates are needed.
    Try it and good luck.

    thanks everyone

  20. The software update did the trick for me too – what a relief!

  21. If you drag a CMYK formatted jpeg into Keynote the colour invariably inverts. If you convert the same file to RGB format in an external editor before dragging it into Keynote, it works just fine. If this is a solution for you it may save a great deal of time and stress moving folders around, reinstalling and updating :)

  22. The software updates solved it for me and I’m using 10.6.4

  23. The folder trick worked for me. Thanks to all of you who mentioned it.

  24. Opened the pics in Photoshop and converted them to RGB like David Elf wrote and tried again.

    Works!

    Thanks!

FYI – the update works when installing iWork ’08 on Lion as well.

I was going batty until I found this website.

    Thanks!
